Happy End of the Summer. I continue to create xanga entries in my head, even though they haven't seemed to make it out onto the computer recently. However, I am tired of looking at an old entry.

Labor Day Weekend is here, and for the first year in a while, my family is not going to Pere Marquette. Instead we will be spending the weekend with Sarah at Mizzou. I never really unpacked my suitcase from this past week - my mom and I went to Kansas to babysit for my cousins. They were crazy busy hosting cheerleading camps and simply getting things ready for the start of school. (They work and live on the campus of a small college.) We did more than babysit, really it was running the whole household, cooking, organizing guests, etc. There is nothing that makes you feel older than chasing a toddler around. Anyway, we have decided that Boo in Monsters, Inc. must be 19 months old, because Deanna was like a replica. She talks your ear off with made-up words and songs, and her hair is just long enough for pigtales. (I'm still not sure what to call Deanna, my cousin's kid - a second cousin? once removed? she's like a niece, but that might confuse people....)

As life can never be quiet in my house, we are currently in the middle of relandscaping our yard. At this moment, there is a mountain of mud in the front yard and several large machines and diggers in the nonexistent back yard. My house is on a somewhat steep hill, so we are putting in a wall around the front and back yards and repaving our driveway. This is something my parents have been planning since we first moved into this house almost 10 yrs ago, and hopefully it will solve most of the drainage and ease-of-walking problems. On an interesting note, my mom has been occupied this whole time, both in Kansas and at work, leaving most of the daily issues and construction questions to my dad and me. You have no idea how much this worries me... though I'm sure it is all going to turn out beautifully no matter what.

Today the weather cooled down which makes me think of fall. If I thought it would last, I would start pulling out some sweaters... I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend.

Happy 4th of July, a little belated. We went to Fair St.L that weekend for the first time to enjoy the Jason Mraz concert - Sarah has some really good pics on her facebook page. We ended up staying home from the Webster fireworks because of the rain, for the first time that I can remember.

This weekend shall be interesting, we have a family reunion for my dad's side. It is pretty typical in that the majority of us have no clue who all the other people are. The reunion is comprised of three branches so far up the family tree that it seems impossible to call them cousins. Much of the time will be spent looking through ancient photo albums and chatting with our one and only first cousin on that side.

Last night I got to see the new Pirates movie at the Moolah Shrine (where they have large leather couches instead of seats.) I liked it, though the movie was much darker than the first. There were lots of surprises, and the ending set up the third movie for next summer a la Back to the Future or Star Wars. I would certainly recommend it if you are a fan of the first, despite how long it feels.

Next week my cousins from Kansas are coming to visit. Although I love them dearly, sometimes it's a bit difficult to relate to them. I feel that they are in the generation between me and my parents - they are married with a baby, no longer kids themselves but not yet old. We all seem to fluctuate as time goes on... but I am sure we will have fun just the same dragging them around St.L for the week.

Hello my dears. How is your summer going so far? Mine is okay. Just to get it out of the way, I do not have a job yet. The school where I interviewed decided to go with someone else. I have a few other places to look, but nothing is really standing out yet. I'm still debating how long I should hold out for a position in a school and when I should start applying at academic and public libraries. However, I'm really not too worried as my brain has switched into 'summer vacation' mode. I'll worry when it comes September.

I have survived the first (and probably last) extended-family vacation - a week in Branson. Luckily, one particularly negative relative was not able to come. Fights only really broke out twice. I learned a lot about my family, previously having spent time with these out-of-town relatives one or two days a year. I saw my grandpa get angry for the first time in my life. I learned about an entire side of the family I didn't know exist. I remembered why I love my favorite uncle so much.

Things are finally starting to slow down around here, with graduation, the party, and the trip finally over. We went to see Julius Caesar at the Shakespeare Festival in Forest Park. I'd recommend going if you have the chance and don't mind a bloody tragedy. If you aren't familiar with the story, the hint is that Julius isn't the main character. However, there are lots of phrases we are all familiar with to keep you interested, such as "It's all Greek to me!"

I feel like mentioning that I just recently saw the new Pride and Prejudice movie and it is now on my list of top ten favorites. Pictures are delayed as I'm having a bit of trouble with some photos I dropped off at walgreens. It also doesn't help that I'm stuck using the family computer until I can find a place to set up my own. I hope that your summer goes well, and I hope to be writing again soon.

Good morning. It is Graduation Day! I don't have anything particularly thought-provoking to say, but I felt like posting one more time from Dominican before my computer is packed up. Good luck to everyone in the future!

Things I will miss:

  • not having to worry about how much hot water I use in the shower
  • having friends around at all hours of the day
  • the view outside my window
  • going to an interesting class
  • DU Day at the Lake
  • knowing almost every face on campus
  • having an internet connection all to myself
  • the ugly brown phones with silent messaging
  • Sunday evening mass
  • all the Sisters
  • Fr. Ron Gault's accent

Things I won't miss:

  • lack of closet space
  • noise next door from an ELS party
  • working conferences at the Priory
  • the shuttle
  • homework in general
  • Chicago drivers
  • the constant smell of Asian food in my hallway

and much more...

After my exit interview this morning, I will be completely done! which means it is time to focus solely on packing. This is going to take a while as I have not even started, besides collecting boxes, which seems to create more mess, not less. I am looking forward to seeing my grandparents this weekend, who have not been here since my aunt attended Rosary. I'm a bit disappointed that most of the faculty, staff, and students I know will be attending the earlier graduation ceremony. I've started making my rounds of goodbyes, as with the busy weekend, I won't be seeing most people before I leave. I wish you all good luck with everything you have going on this week!
